Chips and minor fractures in the enamel of the teeth in your smile can lead to several problems, impeding bite alignment and the cosmetic appeal of your smile. If you feel self-conscious about your smile, you might want to talk to your dentist about a cosmetic dental contouring procedure.

It’s important to keep in mind that cosmetic dental contouring is only appropriate for adjusting teeth that have suffered a minor amount of damage. At the initial consultation, your dentist might want to take some X-rays to get a clear picture of the strength of your enamel and the health of the teeth. If you don’t have sufficient enamel they might recommend cosmetic veneers or a series of crowns to improve your smile.

Once it has been assessed that there is enough healthy enamel, Dr. Sidney Adler will remove a small amount of enamel from each of the damaged teeth. They will then carefully blend and smooth the contour of each tooth to match your personal bite pattern. Afterward your dentist might also recommend a fluoride treatment and regular use of fluoride toothpaste to help keep your enamel strong.
