When a tooth is fractured the structure of the tooth enamel is often altered and the long term health of the tooth can be threatened. As time goes on, the tooth could suffer a more severe fracture or a new cavity that penetrates deep into the tooth.

To prevent these complications, you should have the fractured tooth examined at our dental practice as soon as possible. The severity of the damage to the tooth will determine the restoration method our dentists recommend.

A basic dental filling or cosmetic bonding procedure might be able to repair a small dental fracture. A more substantial dental fracture or a chip that forms on a critical surface of a tooth might require Dr. Sidney Adler or Dr. Beth Berson to replace the entire tooth enamel layer with a dental crown.

In a severe case where a dental fracture has traumatized the pulp or root of the tooth, our dentists might need to perform a root canal to restore the damaged structures. Once this is done we can start the process of restoring the tooth with a dental crown. With good oral hygiene practices, you can expect your newly restored tooth to last for many years to come.
