Many people fear the dental office, but a simple dental checkup should not be something to be scared of. However, our staff at Riverdale Oral Health and Implant Center understand that if you aren’t sure what will happen during the appointment, it’s easy to be scared, which is why we are here to tell you what you can expect during your visit and relieve any anxiety.
When you come into our office, the following things will happen:
Your teeth will be deep cleaned
The deep teeth cleaning is one of the main reasons why your dental checkups are so important. The cleaning will remove substances and particles that a toothbrush and toothpaste cannot remove. During the cleaning, our hygienist will scrape the surfaces of your teeth with a special tool. This will remove the plaque and tartar that live on your smile. This is vital for your oral health because if these substances are not removed, your smile will suffer from gum disease. In addition to the removal technique, our hygienist will also thoroughly floss your teeth, cleaning every hard-to-reach areas of your mouth.
You will receive a fluoride treatment
Fluoride treatments are beneficial because it strengthens and nourishes your smile, giving you the ability to fight off tooth decay and other dental issues. We will give you a fluoride treatment in addition to your cleaning. This fluoride treatment is flavored and it will come in the form of a varnish, gel, or foam. We will simply place the fluoride into your mouth and wait for a few minutes as the minerals soak into your teeth. After the time is up, you will rinse your mouth with water.
Your smile will be thoroughly examined
The oral examination is also a very important part of your appointment. We will perform a visual inspection on your smile and using special tools to do so. This exam will not hurt whatsoever. To further inspect your smile, our team will take X-rays of your teeth, roots, and gums, and examine those X-rays to make sure you do not have any hidden dental problems.
Now these three things don’t sound so bad, do they? They are simple and effective tasks that will help you have the best oral health possible.
